Could a Cancer Cure Be As Close As Your Kitchen Pantry?
Green Tea Extract, a powerful antioxidant derived from green tea leaves, may help prevent oral cancer, according researchers at The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Centre.
The result of their study has been published online in Cancer Prevention Research.
This news follows findings from The National Health and Medical Research Council about the efficacy of green tea and mushrooms in reducing the risk of breast cancer in Chinese women published in the October issue of International Journal of Cancer.
Over half of the patients in this small study taking green tea extract had a clinical response, leading researchers to believe that green tea might be promising as a cancer preventative agent for oral cancer patients with a pre-malignant condition known as oral leukoplakia.
Green Tea and its extracts have also been used and studied in treatment of a wide variety of diseases including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, heart disease, and cancer, in addition to providing energy.
These exciting research results follow findings earlier this month from a study published in the British Journal of Cancer.
The study found that the “curry spice” curcumin, a powerful component of turmeric and a popular Indian spice, found in the pantry of most households, demonstrated to help kill cancer cells in patients with esophageal cancer.
Researchers believe that curcumin can inhibit the growth and metastasis of tumors in certain types of cancers.
